Kehlsteinlinie

One of the top sights in Germany. Take the Eagle's Nest Line (Line 849) in Berchtesgaden for an unforgettable side trip.

The Eagle's Nest Line operates daily from mid of May to end of October, depending on the winter weather.

The journey along the Eagle's Nest Road takes around 20 minutes, passes through five tunnels and offers breathtaking views. A tunnel leads from the bus turntable into the mountain. From there, visitors can take the lift to the Eagle's Nest, 124 metres higher up.

The Eagle's Nest is a representative building erected by the National Socialists in 1938, which was built just below the mountain top at an altitude of 1834 meters. In 1951, the house and the Eagle's Nest road were transferred to the Berchtesgadener Land administrative district, which set up a shuttle bus service. Today, the house is run as a mountain inn, with the proceeds going to charitable organisations in the district.

In the immediate vicinity of the departure point is the Obersalzberg Documentation Centre. Here visitors can gain a comprehensive insight into the history of Obersalzberg and its connection to Adolf Hitler and National Socialism. Admission to the documentation centre is included in the Eagle's Nest ticket.
